Cool, thanks Soren. Hey, could you add in a function where people get notified when you've replied to their comments? That would be great.

I'm subscribed to your blog already and will keep reading the fantastic stuff you put out.

Hey Ivy,

Don't get to caught up in the % conversion rate or the commission %.

The number you are interested in is what you earn on average per free member you send to the site.

I want at least $2-3 on average per free member I send to a site - if I don't get that I will look for another program to promote.

So my advice would be to test it and see how it goes - then can the program if you aren't happy with the results.

Hi Soren

Regarding free to join sites, what is a good conversion rate for the OTO? I'm promoting a free to join site with an OTO offered at $397. What kind of conversion rate should I be looking for on that? I know that $397 is pretty high, so not sure what conversion rate I should expect.

Commission-wise, it pays a commission of $97 for each OTO sale - not sure if that's very good, shouldn't it be 50%?

Would be very interested in your opinion!

Thanks, Soren, that all makes sense to me.

What I've also been doing is attaching tracking code to my optin forms so I know which subs are coming from Giveaway events.

Hi Ivy,

Yep that makes more sense, giveaway subscribers are a lot harder to convert into customers. Here are a couple of hints that should help you...

1) They join your list with the freebies on their mind, they aren't necessarily looking for information or products - with this type of list it's essential to promote good "free to join sites" with great one time offers.

2) They will often join a lot of lists from inside the giveaway and rather than unsubscribing from the ones they don't want, they will often can the whole email account and start another. If you have another list/free product, try to get your giveaway subscribers on to that list ASAP.

3) Because of that a giveaway lists is not a long term thing - it's important that you try to monetize it as quickly as possible by using one time offers, thank you and download page ads.

Giveaways are great but you have to see the new subscribers as a different beast compared to the ones coming in from say PPC advertising.

Thanks Soren. The other thing is that most of the subscribers have come from Giveaway events. Have you found that Giveaway event subscribers are harder to convert? I mean, they join an event, download so many things and get bombarded with emails, so it must be harder to convert them, right? Or have you found that you can still convert Giveaway subscribers yourself?

Hi Ivy,

If you have run 400 subscribers through your system and you haven't made a single sale, there's something wrong.

You need to take a look at the products you are promoting and how you are presenting them - it's probably time to try something else and/or rewrite your emails. Are you using one time offers and thank you page ads when they sign up? That's another way to get some revenue going.

But with 400 subs and no sales I would worry about the emails and products before I tried to put more people through the system.
